Carpet installers use strong mastic that doesn t deteriorate when they glue down carpets and they often use more than is really needed both of which spell bad news for you when you want to remove the carpet.
Removing glued carpet pad.
Sweep the areas of the floor from which you able to remove the loose larger pieces of carpet pad.
Remove as much of the carpet glue as possible by scraping it using a razor blade scraper.
Throw away the debris.
To use the scraper attachment insert the blade into your reciprocating saw and lock it in place.
Boiling water will soften up hard to remove glue.

A 2 to 4 wide blade should be appropriate for removing carpet glue.
You may want to remove the carpet padding yourself but if you re hiring a professional to work on your wood floor it may be better to have that person remove the padding as well.
