Although red usually denotes a positive circuit there is nothing about the wire itself that makes it positive or negative. For a two wire system with a negative ground the positive wire is red and the negative wire is white. For a two wire system with a positive ground the positive wire is white and the negative wire is black. The other wire is negative and can go to the negative terminal of the battery or otherwise grounded to anything metal on the car.

The term positive. Recognize that the black wire is the positive one the white wire is the negative one and the green wire is the ground. White is neutral in home wiring. Words alone are not a marking.

Red is sometimes used in 3 way switches and dimmer applications so it is likely red is hot in your application if it pertains to home wiring. When you re hanging a chandelier or any other ceiling light first find the 3 wires coming out of the hole in the ceiling where the light will go. Typically the positive wire is red and the ground or negative is black. However most speaker wires don t do colors.

Lastly there are three wire systems that feature a center tap wire which is colored white. Good news is with speakers it doesn t really matter which one you choose as your positive and which as your negative just so long as you are consistent.
